Hand carved furniture, Paris recamier

The Continental Collection, an elegant mix of furniture from the periods of Louis XV and XVI, the French Empire, Regency, and more. Hand carved furniture, the Paris chair is carefully modeled after the original piece of furniture.

The late Eighteenth century was a revolutionary period for furniture in Great Britain. Imports of mahogany, an ideal material for carving, allowed great innovations in style. The influences of Italian, French, and even Chinese forms inspired those innovations more abundantly than has been seen before or since. When George III ascended the throne in 1760 the changes were well underway, with Thomas Chippendale leading the way. His Gentlemen and Cabinet-Maker's Director, published in 1754, illustrates the adaptation of the new styles to functions of all kinds. By the 1770's they were being produced in the new world as well.
