Ancient and antique Asian Statue
Carved brown stone seated Foo Dog with elaborately detailed carvings, open mouth, tongue visible, necklace with ball chain, left paw resting on something, patterns to the surface. Seated on a decorative base. Foo Dogs are really lions, the proud Mother of the feline race. Although lions were not indigenous to China, lion artwork and sculptures were imported gifts to the emperor. Later introduced in Chinese primitive art, the lion became associated with Buddhism as the defender of law and protector of sacred buildings. Light earthen patina.
Terracotta seated male wearing a helmet with one hand to the chest, the other to the waist, a sash across his chest with a geometric pattern, with traces of brown and black.
