Ancient Egyptian Scarabs
Carved light green limestone heart scarab, once placed on the throat, chest, or heart of the Mummy. At the bottom, eight lines of hieroglyphics including the Sun God Ra, cartouche, birds and an ankh. Some were worn by the deceased on a necklace, or mounted in gold settings as a pectoral. Heart scarabs provided the bearer with the assurance that at the final judgment as depicted in the Book of the Dead, the bearer would be found "True of Voice" and accepted into the eternal afterlife by the God Osiris. 18th Dynasty.
Ancient Egyptian artifacts in a wall frame
Soapstone Horus amulet in a burgundy and gold frame. Horus, the falcon-god, was usually depicted as a hawk or as a man with the head of a hawk. Hours was not only a God of the sky, but also the embodiment of divine kingship and protector of the reigning pharaoh. As a son of Isis and Osiris, Horus was also worshipped under the name of Harsiese, the God who performed the rite of “opening of the mouth”, on his father, thus legitimizing his succession to the throne as earthly ruler.
