Freestanding Bronze bearded Herakles with the hands clinched, the robe draped over the left arm. Herakles, the Roman name for the greatest hero in Greek mythology. Like most authentic heroes, Herakles had a God as one of his parents: the son of the supreme deity Zeus and a mortal woman, Alcmene.
