Wooden Ibis, associated with Thoth, the God of wisdom and learning, on a base. Covered with gesso and then painted in black and white, the left foot broken off. Anyone, who killed an ibis, accidentally or not, was put to death. Sacred ibises were raised in temple precincts at Thoth’s cult centers throughout Egypt and were mummified and interred on a large scale. Light dirt patina. Middle Kingdom
