Olmec Culture statue
Carved green jade standing male with an erect phallus, almond eyes, rectangular ears, arms slighly raised with fist with full open lips. In recent years, archaeologists have uncovered many remains of this culture but much still remains to be learned. Sometimes burying their objects, the Olmec carved in jade and hard stone. The figure of a half-human, half-jaguar creature was thought to be a God and occurred often in their art. An Olmec slab dating 31 BC is considered by some historians to be America's oldest known dated work, proving that the Olmec had some knowledge of hieroglyphic writing. Very rare and exceptional piece.
