Bronze freestanding Venus, the Roman Goddess of love and beauty. She came to be equated with the Greek Goddess Aphrodite, whose myths she took over. Her importance rose with the political fortunes of Julius Caesar, who claimed descent from Venus. Caesar introduced the cult of Venus as a Goddess of marriage and motherhood. This figure is represented nude, the right hand over the breast, the left holding a drapery fold. Covered in a rich green patina and is in good condition.
