The name of the Japanese maker and the sun are engraved onto the surface of the short blade. The scabbard has a wooden core that is covered in gold metal sheeting that has the traditional diamond shaped and chrysanthemum patterns etched onto the surface along with a row of Japanese characters on one side, a dragon on the other. The hilt has metal sheeting with more Japanese characters.
