Roman artifacts ancient statue, Goddess of the Amazons
Ancient Roman statue. Terracotta freestanding statue of Diana of Ephesus, Goddess of the Amazons, an ancient worship that focused on the Goddess as Queen of Heaven. In Roman times she was called Diana; yet at Ephesus, she was worshipped under the names Mother of Animals or Many-Breasted Artemis. Her temple built by the Amazons was one of the wonders of the Ancient World. Her hands and arms missing, she stands on a base.
Asian Foo Dog statue
Hollow Iron Foo Dog, its paw touching the chest of a cub Foo Dog by its breast. Foo Dogs are really lions, the proud Mother of the feline race. Although lions were not indigenous to China, lion artwork and sculptures were imported gifts to the emperor. Later introduced in Chinese primitive art, the lion became associated with Buddhism as the defender of law and protector of sacred buildings. Traces of gold gilding.
