Ancient Egyptian Ushabtis
Light blue glazed faience Ushabti with low relief hieroglyphics, tripartite wig, rectangular back pillar, chin beard, slightly smiling mouth. Often called "Servants of the Afterlife," Ushabtis were placed in the tomb of the Mummy and were intended to be servants that would magically come to life and do any chore the Mummy might be called upon to perform in the afterlife. 26th Dynasty.
Carved light green limestone heart scarab, once placed on the throat, chest, or heart of the mummy. Two cobras, two baboons, one jackal-headed Anubis and a cartouche on top. Egyptian symbols including six rows of hieroglyphs at the bottom. Some were worn by the deceased on a necklace, or mounted in gold settings as a pectoral. Heart scarab provided the bearer with the assurance that at the final judgment as depicted in the Book of the Dead, the bearer would be found "True of Voice" and accepted into the eternal afterlife by the God Osiris. Third Intermediate Period.
