Bronze Kheiron statue with a bow and arrow, the immortal son of the Titan Kronos and a half-brother of Zeus. Kheiron mentored many of the great heroes, including Jason and Akhilleus. The Kentauros, once accidentally wounded by Herakles with a Hydra-venom-coated arrow, was unable to endure the pain and voluntarily relinquished his immortality and died. In recompense he was given a place among the stars of heaven as the Constellation Sagittarius.
