Happy Buddha. Pu-Tai, a Chinese monk nicknamed ”Laughing Buddha,” was known for his protruding stomach and constant laugh. The Buddha was an embodiment of all great virtues. Carved from a solid piece of wood, Happy Buddha, standing on a base, is depicted as holding a weight scale around his shoulder, one side with a stack of coins, the other with some kind of goods. He wears a beaded necklace with a trident pendant, the pendant with some Chinese inscriptions on it. Very rare and attractive statue and a great example of the Chinese artisanship.
