Called Eros by the Greeks, Cupid was also known as the Roman god of love. As the youngest of the gods and the offspring of Venus, the goddess of love, and Mars, the god of war, the earliest images show him as a handsome, athletic young man until the mid-300’s BC where he was portrayed as a chubby, naked infant with wings. Clay flask with two handles, the winged god, Cupid/Eros, in high relief to the front. In excellent condition.
