Ancient Egyptian artifacts figure 1570 - 1342 BC

To one side, two seated baboons, to the other, three. The baboon was sacred to the god, Thoth, and when sitting up straight, can be an image of Thoth. As the god of writing, wisdom, learning and the moon, Thoth was a self-created god who invented magic and the hermetic arts. Thoth was present at the judgment of souls and sat on top of the scale that weighed the hearts of the dead against the feather of Ma’at. When passing judgement on the deceased, the baboon Thoth told the ibis-headed Thoth when the scales were balanced. The ibis-headed Thoth related his findings to the other gods who were present at the judgement. Made from limestone with slight traces of a blue glaze. 18th dynasty
