Chinese goddess of mercy, carved from a solid piece of wood and standing on a lotus base in an elaborate costume and headdress, serene downcast expression, slit eyes, elongated earlobes and pouting lips. Next to her, a tree stand with a book of prayers. She holds a slender vase from which flows ‘the waters of compassion’. Covered in a light earthen patina with traces of gold gilding.
